Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we mark the 100th Anniversary of the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department our officers and members would first like to extend warm wishes to you and your family for a happy, healthy, and safe new year.
2012 was our busiest year ever. Our department responded to more than 1,700 emergency calls, including the high volume of emergency calls necessitated by Hurricane Sandy. At the same time, we continued our community service endeavors. We organized a hurricane relief drive within 2 days of the storm, rapidly delivering a full box truck of much needed clothing and supplies directly to the citizens of Seaside Heights, NJ. We continued our fire prevention programs for the grade school children and the distribution of complimentary smoke detectors to our residents, Our annual summer carnival, Santa’s Express and participation in the USMC’s Toys for Tots program were again great successes. Also, for the first time we hosted the U.S. Marine Corps’ Recruit Family Day at Fire HQ. It was our way of giving something back to our nation’s troops; we hope to continue to do this in the future.
Thanks to your generous support and the help of local craftsmen, we also unveiled our new 9/11 Memorial at Fire Headquarters. It will serve as a permanent reminder of the ultimate sacrifice given by the 343 FDNY firefighters and first responders who perished.
We would like to THANK YOU for your continuous support, and remind you to please not hesitate to call on us — not only for fires or emergencies, but also for water conditions, if you are locked out of your house, or are concerned about possible hazards or unsafe conditions. Also, if you are in need of smoke detectors, please contact us. Always remember, our highly trained, dedicated volunteer firefighters are here to serve you — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — just as we have been for the past 100 years.
Thank you and stay safe,
Chief of Department
